Diving into an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have discovered a variety of engaging independent titles. However, one stands out for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer lets you play a hero that is truly a dung attempting to navigate to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."

The gameplay is simple: just use a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty levels, encounter tough enemies and access a store to purchase outfits for your dung hero.

Time your movements with caution, since one mistake means restarting the level. Leap off floating orbs to propel the poop higher, traverse crumbling surfaces, and activate switches to reveal secret routes. Gather currency to purchase challenging levels as the action ramps up.

Graphically, the experience features vibrant environments and a killer background music. The simple visual style featuring moving basic polygons may remind players of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's tough to think of previous releases where you play as a coiled turd, interactive entertainment frequently included scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make grenades from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as soil enrichment. Naturally, this theme appears extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already garnered notable awards, such as being named best at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is accessible now on Steam, with the final release planned to debut on Steam in the fall.
