Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson disclosed he barely escaped a potentially deadly incident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when a pair of track officials crossed the track directly in front of him

The dangerous situation happened on the third circuit when track officials were spotted on the racing surface as Lawson was getting back on the race following an early pitstop to change his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson communicated to his team engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you just see that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing"

"I exited on a brand new hard tyres, and then I got to Turn One and there were just two guys running across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Obviously there's been a miscommunication somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a active circuit marshals can be permitted to just run across the track in such a way. I don't understand the reason, I'm certain we'll get some kind of clarification, but this must never be repeated"

Governing Body Reviewing

F1's overseeing organization, the FIA, is actively examining the circumstances

"After an occurrence at turn one, race control was notified that wreckage remained on the track at the apex of that corner" commented the governing body

"In the third rotation, safety personnel were notified and placed on standby to access the circuit and remove the wreckage once all cars had passed"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had entered the pits, the instructions to dispatch marshals were rescinded and a safety warning flag was shown in that section"

"The examination is ongoing what transpired subsequent to that time"
